Is my nakshatra the same as my zodiac sign?+
No. Your Western sun sign only depends on your date of birth. Your nakshatra depends on where the Moon was at your exact birth time, a completely different calculation, using a different planet and a different (sidereal) zodiac reference point.
What if I don't know my exact birth time?+
The Moon moves into a new nakshatra roughly every day, so an approximate time can still land you in the right one, but the pada (1-4) and fine timing become less certain. Check your birth certificate or hospital papers first, birth time is often recorded even when families don't remember it.
How is my pada calculated?+
Each nakshatra spans 13°20' and is divided into 4 equal padas of 3°20' each. Your pada is just which quarter of your nakshatra the Moon was in at your birth moment, more precision, from the same birth time input.
